Food Critic and Businessman Clash over Food Review

By Oyinkansayo Wole-Bodunde.

A dispute has occurred between Nigerian food critic Opeyemi Famakin and businessman Cubana Chiefpriest over a recent review of Cubana’s restaurant in Imo State.

Famakin visited the restaurant on September 11, 2024 and shared his thoughts on Instagram, praising the restaurant’s appearance but criticizing the pre-made and microwaved pastries.

Initially, Chiefpriest thanked Famakin publicly for his feedback but things took a turn when Famakin alleged that Chiefpriest threatened him via direct message, warning him of karma and implying that he would face consequences for his review.

Famakin expressed fear for his safety and considered leaving Imo State, sharing screenshots of the conversation as evidence. He said, “If anything happens to me while I’m here, you know who to hold.”

Chiefpriest claimed that Famakin had requested the staff to microwave his burger, contradicting Famakin’s criticism. Chiefpriest accused Famakin of hypocrisy, questioning why he didn’t stop the staff from microwaving the burger if he didn’t like it. Famakin denied the accusations, calling them lies.
