The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has asserted its position as the largest user of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) in conducting examinations worldwide. According to JAMB Registrar, Prof. Ishaq Oloyede, no other exam body globally, including those in the US and UK, has been able to register and conduct online exams for nearly 2 million candidates simultaneously.
Speaking at the 2024 International Week hosted by the University of Lagos (UNILAG), Prof. Oloyede emphasized JAMB’s success in using ICT to streamline its operations while ensuring inclusivity for candidates with special needs, such as visually impaired individuals and albinos. He stressed that the organization has maintained credibility and cost-effectiveness while achieving equitable exam access.
Prof. Oloyede also addressed the relevance of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in education, pointing out that AI must be paired with natural intelligence to be effective, particularly in the digital transformation of education.

Adding to the discussion, the acting Executive Secretary of the National Universities Commission (NUC), Dr. Chris Maiyaki, noted that Nigeria’s higher education system is at a crossroads in embracing inclusive digital transformation. He praised UNILAG for its efforts in positioning itself as a global center for innovation and knowledge dissemination, in line with NUC’s vision.
UNILAG’s Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Folasade Ogunsola, highlighted the importance of the annual International Week, which fosters global collaboration and skills development for students, boosting their employability.
Foreign representatives, including the Ambassador of Spain to Nigeria, Juan Ignacio Sell, and the First Secretary of the European Union Commission, Nigeria, Prof. Leila Mathieu, expressed their commitment to strengthening partnerships with Nigerian universities, particularly in innovation, research, and empowering women in science.
The event attracted a diverse range of dignitaries, including Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, who was represented by the Commissioner for Tertiary Education, Mr. Sule Tolani, and the Consul-Generals from the US and South Africa.
