Security agents in northwest Nigeria have started operations to find the 25 schoolgirls that were abducted by armed men in their school.
The Police force reported that gun men attacked the Government Girls Comprehensive Secondary School in Maga, Kebbi State, around 4 am local time (03:00 GMT) on Monday. They stated that the gunmen arrived on motorcycles.
The attackers challenged the police and climbed the perimeter fence. They abducted the students and killed the vice‑principal in the process.
On Tuesday, security agents searched nearby forests and positioned units along major roads near the school.
Kebbi State Governor, Nasir Idris visited the school on Monday and pledged to make efforts in rescuing the students.
Also, Nigeria’s chief of army staff, Lieutenant‑General Waidi Shaibu, met troops shortly after the incident and ordered “intelligence‑driven operations and relentless day‑and‑night pursuit of the abductors.” This was revealed in an army statement. Lieutenant‑General Waidi Shaibu said to troops during a Tuesday visit to Kebbi, “We must find these children. Act decisively and professionally on all intelligence. Success is not optional.”
