Nigeria’s Media Leaders Call for Innovative Content Creation Strategies

By Oyinkansayo Wole-Bodunde.

Top media executives in Nigeria have emphasized the need for innovative content creation strategies to ensure sustainability in the digital landscape.

This was said during the DG’s Roundtable session at Nigeria Electronic Media Content Exhibitions and Awards (NEMCEA 2025), on Wednesday 17th September, 2025.

The National Broadcasting Commission (NBC) plans to implement the DSO, providing a platform for local content creators to project and monetize their work.

Also, 60-100 local content channels will be launched, covering the entire country via satellite. A dedicated app will ensure content accessibility on laptops and phones, eliminating the need for physical decoders. A vast marketplace will be created for creators to monetize their work through advertising.

Charles Ebuebu, Director-General of NBC, said, “Our work will be joined and will be rated successful if we’re able to create an enabling environment.” He emphasized the importance of local content policy, saying, “For you to qualify for that ratio that you’re carrying local content, it must have a segment of children’s content. That is to drive productivity.”

Jibrin Baba Ndache, Director-General of Voice of Nigeria (VON), championed a strategy based on “three Ps: people, platform, and partnership.” He invited content creators to collaborate with VON to project Nigeria positively, saying, “All of this content you are creating should be content that projects Nigeria in a positive light because the mandate of Voice of Nigeria is to be in the lead in projecting Nigeria.”

Ndache said that VON is able to amplify local content globally by translating it into multiple languages. He also mentioned the need for media professionals to use new technologies, especially Artificial Intelligence (AI). He said, “AI will not take the place of humans. It is the humans who embrace AI and modern technology will take the place of those who do not.”

Both leaders emphasized their commitment to working together to shape national narratives.

The roundtable ended with a renewed commitment to collaboration and innovation in the media industry, with a focus on empowering local content creators and promoting positive storytelling about Nigeria.
