A serving Corps member in Lagos State has spoken out against the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) board after receiving threats over a social media post criticizing the government’s handling of rising commodity prices.
In a tearful video shared on TikTok, the Corps member expressed frustration over the increasing costs of basic goods, calling President Ahmed Tinubu’s government “terrible” for its inaction.
“If a lot of Nigerians come out and start speaking about what we are going through, maybe changes will be made in the government,” she said. She went further to say, “I just want to say to our president, I don’t know if there is any other president that is as terrible as you, but you are such a terrible president.”
The Corps member also shared her personal struggles with the NYSC scheme, stating that the allowance she receives is insufficient to cover her expenses. “So, I am coming from a supermarket where I went to get foodstuff, and everything has gone up again. It’s just like every single week, prices keep increasing,” she explained.
She further criticized the government’s handling of other issues, such as the high cost of transportation and the poor state of Lagos’ environment. “To make it worse, Lagos stinks. Everywhere smells. What is the government doing about the smell?” she asked.
After posting the video, the Corps member received calls from NYSC officials, who demanded that she remove the post and stop insulting the government.
The Corps member has faced backlash from NYSC officials, who have been trying to reach her to take down the video.
