What the Exhibition Means to the Technical Students?

I do not mince words with today’s students. I often tell them that education remains their brightest chance to become a meaningful, productive and responsible citizens in the future. Based on probability, none of those enticements (trying to keep them from classroom learning) really come close. Why? Education helps to maximise potential.

An uneducated tailor and an educated tailor may have the same potential — they may both be good at sowing. All things being equal however, the educated will be more informed and exposed, more formal and official, more current and adaptive, more well-rounded in knowledge and intelligence, more professional in outlook, setup, management, promotion and packaging, and as a result can more easily attract good high-paying customers. A lot of times, where the uneducated ends its expression and showcase is where the educated starts. Education helps to scale up one’s vocation.

That is why technical education should be further embraced and supported in our clime because it bridges a major gap in education itself and then socio-economic development. I have not met the students of Government Technical College, Agidingbi, Lagos, before now (I will meet them on Thursday at the event), but I can tell what this year’s Exhibition and Sales will be for them. And I can briefly articulate these great benefits:

1. *It will boost their Confidence:* The whole world (well, Nigeria or Lagos) coming to their corner to appreciate their innovations and technical ability will be a major confidence booster for the young students. And I can tell you, confident students grow to become successful professionals.

2. *It will reinforce their Dream:* Right from the secondary school level, the students have the opportunity of realizing a small part of their dream, which is achieving feats that are worth other people’s attention. This will reinforce in them the dream to become big in their professional and technical pursuit going forward.

3. *It will grow their Potential:* The students are going to have their products not just exhibited, but some even sold at the event. That is innovation finding its market, reaching its target, and meeting its needs. A new set of technicians, technical developers and manufacturers are being born.

4. *It will accelerate their Progress:* With the attention they and their innovations will get, the students going forward will tend to delve more into researches and practical experimentations that will ensure their products are better fine-tuned for the larger market.

5. *It will help generate Interest in them and their products:* The viability and need for their innovation will come to fore, and interest will be generated, which may sooner or later lead to collaboration, partnership and support.

For these young technical students, these five (Confidence, Dream, Potential, Progress and Interest) are likely to be impacted by this event. To their future success! When your world is coming to your corner, anything can happen.

Congrats in advance to the students, the staff and the principal of Government Technical College, Agidingbi. Two more days to go!
