BUA Foods Expands Pasta Production Capacity to 900,000MTpa

By Oyinkansayo Wole-Bodunde.

BUA Foods Plc has unveiled plans to significantly expand its pasta production facility, reinforcing its commitment to enhancing food security in Nigeria.

This strategic move aligns with the company’s roadmap and follows the signing of agreements with FAVA (Italy), a renowned pasta equipment manufacturer, and Martini (Italy) for packaging solutions.

The expansion project entails the addition of nine long-cut pasta lines, boosting production capacity by 400,000 tonnes per annum to 900,000MTpa, making BUA Foods one of Africa’s leading pasta producers. This development aims to remove Nigeria’s food supply challenges.

To support this expansion, BUA Foods has also partnered with Cukurova Silo (Turkiye) to increase grain storage capacity by 100,000 tonnes. Previous collaborations include an agreement with IMAS (Turkey) to establish four state-of-the-art wheat and flour milling factories, enhancing milling capacity to 2.5 million MTpa.

According to BUA Foods’ Chairman, Abdul Samad Rabiu, CFR, CON: “Our manufacturing capacity expansion will continue to enable us to extend the boundaries of what we can produce and deliver, supporting our nation’s development by providing solutions to ongoing food shortages. In addition to producing more pasta, we’ll be able to introduce new innovations to support mixed volume growth, while consistently delivering the unrivalled product quality our customers expect.”

Rabiu further emphasized: “The additional 100,000 tonnes of grain storage capacity will enable us to meet the growing demand for our products while strengthening the backbone of our food processing operations by ensuring a reliable and consistent supply of raw materials.”

Upon completion, this expansion project will solidify BUA Foods’ market leadership, increase its manufacturing presence, and generate new employment opportunities.
