Nigeria’s Covenant University has achieved a significant milestone in the academic world, emerging as the top-ranked university in West Africa for Inter-disciplinary Science Research (ISR) in the 2025 Times Higher Education (THE) rankings.
This impressive feat was announced by the university’s Vice-Chancellor, Professor Abiodun Adebayo, in a statement released on Friday, November 22.
According to the rankings, Covenant University not only excelled in West Africa but also secured the third spot in Africa and a respectable 73rd position globally.
In Nigeria, the university topped the list, with 19 out of 27 universities participating in the rankings. Landmark University trailed closely behind, securing a global ranking of 251 to 300.
Professor Adebayo attributed the university’s success to its visionary approach, stating, “This is indeed a validation of our visionary base as a university, as it is the hand of God at work in Covenant University.”
The Inter-disciplinary Science Research (ISR) ranking is a measure of a university’s contributions to interdisciplinary science, which involves the integration of knowledge and processes from multiple scientific disciplines. The ISR methodology evaluates universities based on three pillars: inputs, process, and outputs.
As a private Christian university, Covenant University is affiliated with Living Faith Church Worldwide and is a member of prestigious academic associations, including the Association of Commonwealth Universities, Association of African Universities, and National Universities Commission. Notably, the university made history in 2019 by becoming the first Nigerian university to be ranked in the top 401-500 category of world universities by Times Higher Education.
