President Bola Tinubu has given the green light for the disbursement of N700 billion to public universities, polytechnics, and colleges of education in Nigeria, courtesy of the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund) 2025 allocation.

This development was shared by TETFund’s Executive Secretary, Arc. Sonny Echono, during the 2025 Strategic Planning Meeting with leaders of beneficiary institutions in Abuja.

Echono revealed that each university will receive N2.86 billion, comprising N2.5 billion as normal allocation and N300 million as zonal allocation. Polytechnics will get N1.99 billion, while colleges of education will receive N2.17 billion. As Echono stated, “I am pleased to inform you that Mr. President has approved the Year 2025 disbursement guidelines in the total sum of N700 billion.”

The TETFund boss highlighted the significant expansion of intervention activities, aligning with national priorities outlined in the Education Sector Road Map under President Tinubu’s administration. He also expressed gratitude to the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) for its role in boosting revenue collection.

In compliance with federal directives, TETFund will focus on upgrading, rehabilitating, and renovating deteriorating facilities across beneficiary institutions. Echono emphasized the importance of timely project preparation and advised institutions to utilize their consultancy and physical planning units. Additionally, the Fund has increased allocations for research and innovation, academic staff training and development, and manuscript and book development.
