Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke has joined others to react to the death of a promising young Nigerian artist,IleriOluwa Oladimeji popularly known as Mohbad who died last week Tuesday.
In a condolence message signed by the State Commissioner for Youth Affairs, Hon Olagunju Moshood Olalekan, Adeleke urged concerned authorities not to be found wanting in ensuring speedy dispensation of justice so as to bring the perpetrators behind the death of the young Mohbad to book .
He appreciated the Inspector General of Police who gave immediate order in ensuring that circumstances behind the death of the young artist be investigated.
While also identifying with the bereaved family over the death of their son, the governor commended youth in Osun who joined the rest of their counterparts all over Nigeria in staging a peaceful protest .
He urged the youth to continue to thread the path of legal means of earning a living as opposed to illegality which may claim their lives.
Earlier, some youths gathered on Thursday morning in Ilesa, Osun State, demanding justice for the late Nigerian singer, Ilerioluwa Aloba, popularly known as Mohbad.
The youths who gathered in their numbers across major streets wore blacks and carried placards with inscriptions like #JusticeforMohbad and #WhoOffLight among others.
Recall that this medium also reported that thousands of youths yesterday, stormed the city of Osogbo, capital of Osun State to protest the mysterious death of the young musician.
The youths who gathered in their numbers at the Nelson Mandela freedom park, Osogbo, wore black dresses and carried placards with various inscriptions such as: “#JusticeforMohbad, “#WhoOffLight”, “#FG must act now,” among others, urged President Bola Tinubu and the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun to fish out the killers of the deceased with three days.
Speaking at the protest ground, One of the conveners, Olusayo Ogunleye, said they embarked on the peaceful protest to demand justice for their brother, ‘mohbad,’ whom they believed there was more to his death.
Ogunleye urged the concerned authorities to look into the circumstances surrounding his death with three days.
“We are here to seek justice for our brother, Mohbad. Whoever had hands in his death must be apprehended and punished. We want justice for the deceased. We are here to demand for justice for our brother. We are giving the federal government and the Nigerian Police three days to fish out the killer(s).
Echoing similar views, Fisayo Aderemi called on the government to carry out thorough investigation into the death of Mohbad.
She asked the federal government to also look into the hospital where the artist gave up the ghost and set up committee to look into Marlian records and fish out the culprits as well.
These peaceful rallies are coming days after a protest was launched in Ikorodu, Lagos, in seeking justice for Mohbad.
Mohbad died last Tuesday and was buried on Wednesday in Ikorodu, and his death has attracted concerns, as some accused the owner of Marlian Records and singer, Azeez Fashola, popularly known as Naira Marley.
Renowned artistes have taken to social media to join in demanding justice for the late music sensation.
The Lagos State Police Command has exhumed the corpse of the late singer on Thursday.
The police also arrested the nurse who reportedly injected the deceased singer prior to his demise on Tuesday, September 12.
Confirming the incident, the Lagos State Police Command Public Relations Officer, SP Benjamin Hundeyin said Mohbad’s corpse has been exhumed today, and an autopsy will begin as soon as possible.
However, responding to a further inquiry by PUNCH concerning arrests made by the police in connection with the late singer’s death, Hundeyin added, “I can’t answer questions on the arrests yet, because I don’t have that update. However, the nurse is in our custody; I can confirm that.”
Meanwhile, the acting Inspector-General of Police, Olukayode Egbetokun, had earlier issued a directive to the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Idowu Owohynwa, instructing him to initiate a swift and comprehensive investigation into the tragic passing of Mohbad.
The Force Public Relations Officer, Olumuyiwa Adejobi, made the development known in a late Saturday night.
Adejobi said, “The acting Inspector-General of Police, Olukayode Egbetokun, has issued a direct and urgent directive to the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, instructing him to initiate a swift and comprehensive investigation into the tragic passing of Ilerioluwa Oladimeji Aloba, widely known as Mohbad.
“This directive was conveyed during a brief but crucial discussion at the Police Airwing Hangar, Murtala Muhammed Airport, Ikeja, Lagos, on Saturday, September 16, 2023. He tasked the CP to quickly and effectively unravel the truth behind the tragedy as there have been understandable concerns and speculations surrounding the circumstances of his untimely demise.
“The Nigeria Police Force hereby earnestly urges any family members or close associates possessing valuable information pertaining to this case to come forward and cooperate with the Lagos State Police Command to ensure that justice is served and the circumstances surrounding Mohbad’s demise are thoroughly examined.”
