Ambrose Alli University VC, Prof. Omonzejie, Presents 140th Inaugural Lecture

Professor Eunice Eboiserehimen Omonzejie, Vice-Chancellor of Ambrose Alli University, delivered the institution’s 140th Inaugural Lecture, on Thursday, February 19, 2026.

The lecture showcased her expertise in French and Francophone African literatures. It was titled, “African Migrant Masculinities, Modernities and Cultural Identities: Decoding Contemporary Realities in Francophone Fiction,” and it explored African migrant experiences through the lens of masculinity, modernity, and cultural identity.

With over 34 years of academic experience, Professor Omonzejie has established herself as a leading scholar in her field. She was born on December 23, 1963, in Sapele, Delta State, and she hails from Ukhiodo, Ewu, Edo State. Her academic journey started with a passion for French, earning a BA (Ed) from the University of Ife (now Obafemi Awolowo University), a Diplôme d’Études Françaises (DEF) from Université Grenoble Alpes, and a Master’s and PhD from the University of Benin, where she was the first female PhD graduate of French Studies.

Professor Omonzejie’s career at Ambrose Alli University spans over three decades, with notable positions including Acting Head of the Department of Modern Languages, Sub-Dean of the Faculty of Arts, and Coordinator of Postgraduate French Programmes. She has also served as President of the National Association of Women Academics (NAWACS–AAUE) and Vice-Chairperson of ASUU–AAUE Branch. She became the university’s substantive Vice-Chancellor in September 2025. This role is a testament to her academic and administrative ability.

The inaugural lecture highlights her contributions to African literary studies, gender discourse, and university leadership, marking another achievement in her career.
