The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) in Lagos is protesting the unfair dismissal of five lecturers from the Lagos State University (LASU).
The union is asking Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu to reinstate the lecturers, who were found not guilty by the university’s Governing Council.
The lecturers were dismissed in 2017 and 2019 after being accused by the former Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Lanre Fagbohun. However, the court ruled that the university had no right to try the lecturers, and the Governing Council later found their dismissal to be unjust.
Despite this, the university has not reinstated the lecturers and the governor has not released a report from a Visitation Panel that investigated the matter.
ASUU is asking why the governor is protecting certain individuals and why he has not released the report. They are also questioning why the former Vice-Chancellor, Lanre Fagbohun, has been allowed to return to the university without facing any consequences.
The union members marched peacefully around the university campus, carrying placards. They are calling for the governor to take action and reinstate the lecturers, who have been unfairly denied their livelihood for many years.
