A dispute over revenue sharing has delayed the distribution of funds among the three tiers of government, with ₦1.969 trillion set to be allocated at the January 20 FAAC meeting being rejected by state finance commissioners. They want a higher percentage, stating December 2025 earnings.
The Federation Accounts Allocation Committee (FAAC) usually meets monthly to share revenue from the previous month, but this delay is now affecting January salaries for public sector workers. State governments have rejected the proposed amount before, but it is usually sorted out quickly.
FAAC includes officials from the Finance Ministry, OAGF, NNPC, Customs, Revenue Service, and state and local governments. They are stuck over the amount, with commissioners saying that it is not enough.
The dispute means public sector workers are still waiting for their January pay. State finance commissioners are pushing for more, saying the ₦1.969 trillion does not match December’s earnings.
