Kwara State University Graduates Urged to Turn Challenges into Opportunities

By Oyinkansayo Wole-Bodunde.

Professor Shaykh-Lukman Jimoh, the Vice Chancellor of Kwara State University, Malete, has urged the institution’s new graduates to view challenges as opportunities for growth and development.

Speaking at the 12th convocation ceremony, Jimoh encouraged the graduates to leverage their knowledge and skills to make a positive impact in society.

“You have been properly equipped to make a difference. So, I urge you to start where you are, use what you have and do what you can to accomplish great things. The education you have received at Kwara State University is your ticket to change the world,” Jimoh said.

The convocation ceremony saw a total of 6,891 students graduate, comprising 6,374 undergraduates, 468 Master’s degree holders, and 49 PhD recipients. The university recorded 71 first-class graduates, 1,828 second-class upper graduates, 3,501 second-class lower graduates and 974 third-class graduates.

Jimoh commended the Kwara State Government for its support and praised Governor AbdulRaman AbdulRazaq for his commitment to the university’s growth. However, he emphasized the need for the government and private sector support to address challenges such as road infrastructure, land encroachment, and hostel accommodation.

Governor AbdulRazaq, represented by the state commissioner for Tertiary education, Dr. Mary Arinde, tasked the graduates to be good ambassadors of their alma mater and the state. He expressed delight at the establishment of two new campuses at Osi and Ilesha-Baruba communities, demonstrating his administration’s commitment to education and development.

As the graduates embark on their new journey, Jimoh’s parting words emphasized the importance of kindness, impact, and making a difference. “You are our ambassadors, and we look up to you to propagate the values for which your university is known. Convert challenges to stepping-stones, see opportunities where others see limitations, take on new adventures, and live lives worthy of emulation,” he said.
