Nigerian Government Bans Eedris Abdulkareem’s Protest Song ‘Tell Your Papa’

By Oyinkansayo Wole-Bodunde.

The Nigerian government has taken a firm stance against Eedris Abdulkareem’s latest protest song, “Tell Your Papa,” considering it “inappropriate for broadcast” due to its critical views on the country’s leadership and economic conditions.

The National Broadcasting Commission (NBC) issued a directive to Nigerian radio and television stations to refrain from airing the song, stating a breach of broadcast decency standards.

The song “Tell Your Papa” directly addresses President Tinubu’s son, Seyi Tinubu, urging him to speak to his father about the hardships faced by Nigerians.

NBC classified the song as “Not To Be Broadcast” (NTBB) for violating Section 3.1.8 of the Nigeria Broadcasting Code. This is not Eedris Abdulkareem’s first clash with authorities over his politically driven music. His 2004 hit “Jaga Jaga” was also banned for its bold commentary on government faults.
