Ondo Governor States Commitment to Excellence in Health and Education

Ondo State Governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, has stated his administration’s commitment to excellence in health and education, emphasizing their crucial role in sustainable development.

“Health and education are two pillars that will always be prioritized by my administration because they are fundamental to sustainable development,” he said.

During the 6th convocation ceremony of the University of Medical Sciences, Ondo (UNIMED), Aiyedatiwa announced that his administration has allocated N1 billion for the construction of the university’s senate building. He praised UNIMED’s achievements, highlighting its production of three sets of medical doctors and dentists, four sets of nurses and other health professionals within its first decade of existence.

Represented by his special adviser on education, Olawunmi Ilawole, Aiyedatiwa noted that UNIMED has consistently recorded 100% passes in professional examinations conducted by regulatory councils. “I am immensely proud of the remarkable achievements of this university and without any doubt, UNIMED is our pride in Ondo State and has given us a great place of pride in the Nigerian health and education landscape.”
The governor assured the people of continued support for all tertiary institutions in the state.

UNIMED’s Vice-Chancellor, Adesegun Fatusi, reported an increase of the university’s research portfolio over the last five years, with new grants from development agencies.

A total of 634 students graduated from UNIMED, with 34 earning First Class honors. The graduates included medical doctors, dental surgeons, physiotherapists, and other health professionals.

Former Governor Olusegun Mimiko received an award for the best graduating student in Master of Health Law and Policy.
