Nigerian singer Asake has sparked outrage on social media after a video surfaced showing him damaging a fan’s iPhone 16 Pro Max.
The incident occurred on September 29, 2024, when an enthusiastic fan, Adeoti, attempted to take a photo with the musician.
Adeoti shared the footage on TikTok, capturing the moment Asake pushed the phone to the ground and stepped on it, causing significant damage. In the caption, Adeoti wrote, “@asakemusic You broke my iPhone 16 pro Max it’s not because they pissed off inside the nightclub that you are going to react like that towards a fan. Anyway I still love you.”
The video quickly went viral, prompting widespread criticism and disappointment from social media users. Many condemned Asake’s actions, labeling them unacceptable and reflective of a broader issue of celebrity behavior toward fans.
An Instagram user slammed Asake, saying, “A gutter behaviour. Person u suppose deck bro to bro.” Another angry fan questioned, “Would he do that if that fan was a white boy? No! Black man and power show on their fellow blacks is never ending.”
Some users reflected on Asake’s rise to fame, reminding him of his humble beginnings. “People forget easily where they’re coming from. I’m sure Asake at one point in his life wanted to take pictures with celebrities too. How do you treat a fellow human being like that?? Kai!!!”
However, not everyone sympathized with Adeoti. Some criticized the fan’s behavior, saying, “When you people would be acting as if you’re not loved at home around these celebrities” and ” ‘Anyway I still love you’???!! Someone treats you like that and ….. anyways to each his own. Ire ooooo.” Another fan said, “As I see ‘anyways I still love you,’ I know say I no fit put mouth.”
Despite the backlash, Adeoti maintained his admiration for Asake, emphasizing in a separate post that he remains a fan. This, too, brought reactions from others.
Asake is yet to publicly address the incident.
