Today, as the world celebrates World Television Day, the Electronic Media Content Owners Association of Nigeria (EMCOAN) joins in acknowledging the profound impact of television on society. From shaping political discourse to driving entertainment, fostering education, showcasing the arts, and fueling business innovation – television remains an unparalleled force in connecting and informing audiences.
As the foremost umbrella body for electronic media content creators in Nigeria, EMCOAN recognizes television as a dynamic platform for storytelling, cultural expression, and nation-building.
Over the decades, television has served as a bridge between governments and citizens, offering real-time updates on critical developments, amplifying diverse voices, and fostering democratic engagement. In entertainment, it has created stars, built communities, and told stories that resonate across generations and borders.
The importance of television in education cannot be overstated. From inspiring curiosity through documentaries to delivering remote learning during global crises, television has become a critical tool for lifelong learning. Furthermore, the arts and creative industries have found a powerful stage in television, enabling Nigerian content to thrive locally and gain international acclaim. In the word of Mr. Adeniji Omirin, he said ” As an association, EMCOAN reaffirms its commitment to empowering Nigerian content creators with the resources, community, and advocacy they need to succeed. With over a decade of leadership, EMCOAN provides strategic support to electronic media content owners, fostering collaborations, hosting capacity-building initiatives, and creating global platforms like the Nigeria Electronic Media Content Exhibition and Awards (NEMCEA) to showcase the best of our content, bring to fire important industry related issues and to celebrate excellence in content creation.” , he averred.
At a time when the demand for diverse, authentic Nigerian stories is growing worldwide, EMCOAN remains steadfast in championing policies and practices that enable our members to thrive.
On her part, Amaka Chibuzo-Obi, the PRO reiterated the importance of this year’s theme ” As we celebrate this year’s theme of “Television for Development,” EMCOAN urges stakeholders across Nigeria’s media, government, and corporate sectors to invest in local content creation, infrastructure, and talent development. Together, we can ensure that television continues to serve as a transformative tool for societal progress” she maintained.
The statement also invite aspiring and established electronic media content creators to join the community by extension the body (EMCOAN), where they can access resources, networking opportunities, and the collective strength needed to elevate their contributions to the Nigerian and global television landscape.
