NNPP Founder, Publicity Secretary Suspended Amid Internal Strife

….. Our Suspension A theatrical Performance – Major

The New New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) has plunged into a state of turmoil, with the suspension of its founder, Dr. Boniface Okechukwu Aniebonam, and National Publicity Secretary, Dr. Agbo Major, adding fuel to the already simmering internal crisis.

The National Working Committee (NWC) of the party during a press briefing yesterday presided over by the acting National Chairman, Mallam Abba Kawu Alli, and National Auditor, Oladipo Johnson, announced the immediate suspension of Aniebonam and Major.

It was learnt that the suspension is necessary pending the conclusion of investigations by the National Disciplinary Committee.

However, in a swift response, Dr. Agbo Major, the National Publicity Secretary, denied the reports, asserting that neither the Founder, Dr. Boniface Okechukwu Aniebonam, nor himself had been suspended.

Major dismissed the suspension announcement as an absurd theatrical performance more fitting for the realms of Nollywood or Hollywood than a political party.

Mallam Abba Kawu Alli, in the earlier statement, revealed that ,“Recent developments surrounding our party’s restructuring and the conduct of some of our members led to the expulsion of two party members, suspension of seven former state chairmen, and dissolution of executive committees in nine state chapters.”

Alli further pointed out that Dr. Boniface Aniebonam had taken unilateral actions to reverse decisions made by the National Working Committee and ratified by the National Executive Committee (NEC). Such actions were deemed unacceptable by the NWC.

Therefore, in line with the party’s constitution, both Aniebonam and Major were suspended, pending the outcome of investigations by the Disciplinary Committee at the National Level.

The statement cited Article 39.2 (7) of the party’s constitution, accusing the suspended individuals of anti-party activities and actions that could tarnish the party’s reputation.

Additionally, the statement highlighted alleged efforts to fictionalize the party and collaborate with other suspended members to undermine its operations.

Emphasizing the party’s unity, Alli asserted, “We will stand up against those who seek to tarnish our reputation.

The disgruntled expelled and suspended members, including Dr. Aniebonam, are using him to perform actions that are detrimental to the party’s growth and constitutional functioning.”

Agbo Major dismissed the suspension as a farce, highlighting that the Board of Trustees (BOT) of NNPP possesses the authority to rectify actions that contradict the constitution.

Major criticized the alleged attempts by former presidential candidate Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso to take control of the party, suggesting a conflict of interest with the Founder’s commitment to upholding the rule of law.

While a comprehensive response is anticipated after the scheduled Board meeting on August 28th in Lagos, Major urged the media to treat the purported suspension with skepticism.

He emphasized the BOT’s authority to correct any unconstitutional actions taken by party members.
