The speaker of the State of Osun House of Assembly, Hon Adewale Egbedun said henceforth, Osun State shall no longer be regarded as the State of Osun, just like the state of the virtuous have been replaced with the State of the living Spring as initiated by state founding fathers.
He stated this while presiding over the plenary on Monday during the final passage on the law amending the establishment of State of Osun,State of Osun House of Assembly,Crest and Flag, bill 2023
The bill had in the last few weeks undergone legislative rites before it was eventually passed into law.
It was the first legislation business of the week,as lawmakers seated early enough to attend to matters before them.
Osun State Anthem,Crest and Flag law 2023 was the first business of the day while presentation and adoption of the screening committee report fellowed, thereafter was the reappearanced of 13 commissioner nominees.
Egbedun said the passage of the bill became imperative in accordance with the provision of law and for the sake of clarity as well to obey the verdict of high court who had earlier pronounced the State of Osun and its title as null and void since 2017.
Hon Egbedun added that while the amended law also adopted the national flag in place of the state flag a feat which the speaker said is aimed at upholding the national unity as a federating unit.
The speaker also explained that the amended law and cluauses that have overtimes created bottle neck, have been addressed but it recognizes the state anthem and hence it is mandatory and people are compelled by law to be rendering the anthem along side the national anthem in public and official functions.
Earlier, Majority leader of the house honourable Kofoworola Adewunmi had moved for the passage of the bill and it was seconded by Hon Abiola Awoyeye representing Ife central state constituency.
The house also received for adoption the deputy speaker Hon Akinyode Oyewusi led commissioner nominees screening’s committee report.
In his remarks,the speaker, honourable Adewale Egbedun lauded what he described as a well grounded,composed, precise and comprehensive report presented and submitted by the committee for adoption. Thereafter was the appearance of the screened commissioner nominees.
In the meantime,the appearance of the remaining commissioner nominees exercise continues tomorrow.
