The APC Campaign Council in Edo State has accused Governor Godwin Obaseki of planning to cause chaos in the state through mass protests starting on September 15, 2024.
They claim he wants to create a national crisis by working with other PDP governors.
According to Prince Kassim Afegbua, the council’s Director of Media, Governor Obaseki discussed his plan at a meeting at the Government House in Benin City on September 8, 2024. The meeting allegedly included individuals suspected of killing a police inspector, who have not yet surrendered to the police.
Afegbua also claims that a senior police officer is protecting these individuals and working with Obaseki’s security chief to hinder law enforcement efforts.
Additionally, the council alleges that seven APC members and three PDP members were arrested by the Commander of the 4th Brigade, but while the PDP members were released immediately, the APC members were detained until their lawyers intervened.
The council also claims that Governor Obaseki is encouraging other PDP-controlled states to delay school resumption as part of a nationwide protest against the APC-led Federal Government.
The APC Campaign Council is urging security agencies, especially the Inspector General of Police, to take immediate action to prevent a breakdown of law and order, with the Edo governorship election just two weeks away.
So far, the Commissioner for Communication and Orientation, Chris Nehikhare, has not responded to these allegations.
