The Campaigns for Democratic and Workers’ Rights (CDWR) has slammed the Oyo State Government for imposing a ₦7,000 fee on teachers for confirmation and promotion exams.
In a statement, CDWR called it “blatant extortion” and criticized the government’s “anti-worker labour practices.”
According to CDWR, the rules are clear; confirmation after three years of service is automatic, and promotion exams should be government-funded. The union, NUT, is also being criticized for supporting the government’s move instead of fighting it.
CDWR stated that the cost of conducting examinations and training workers is the responsibility of government and not that of workers.
CDWR wants the NUT leadership to withdraw its support for the fee and help organize resistance against it. They also demand a refund for teachers who have already paid and want the government to scrap the policy.
Bamigboye Abiodun (Abbey Trotsky), CDWR State Coordinator, signed the statement, urging workers to push back against the “unjust policy.”
