Nollywood actor Patrick Doyle has sparked controversy by denouncing the popular phrase “I am a Chosen” associated with The Lord’s Chosen Charismatic Revival Ministries.
Doyle’s criticism comes amidst social media uproar over the church’s viral testimonies.
On his Facebook page, Doyle labeled the phrase “nonsensical” and disconnected from Christian doctrine. He emphasized that the phrase, used by the “Chosen” sect, should not be linked to the Body of Christ.
“The members of this sect don’t have Jesus in mind when chanting the phrase. Their adoration is unequivocally directed at a man, their GO. The phrase does not mention or imply Jesus in any way.”
Doyle further stated, “To infer that the nonsensical phrase is connected to giving glory to the name of our Savior, Jesus Christ, is to make a mockery of our faith.” He clarified that content creators and bloggers criticizing the phrase are targeting the sect and its founder, not the Church of God.
Doyle’s remarks follow actor IK Ogbonna’s call for the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) to address “fake miracles” in churches. Other celebrities, including actress Kemi Lala Akindoju, have also criticized the church’s doctrine.
CAN has condemned a viral testimony from a congregant claiming an angel provided exam answers. This testimony ignited the controversy. The Christian association denounced the claim, fueling debate around the church’s practices.
The controversy surrounding The Lord’s Chosen Charismatic Revival Ministries continues to grow, with Doyle’s comments adding to the debate.
