Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s presidential candidate in the 2023 election, has confirmed that he will run for president again in 2027 under the Labour Party.
In a recent video, Obi addressed concerns about internal conflicts within the party, attributing them to government interference. He said, “What is happening in the Labour Party and the PDP is caused by the government. Quote me anywhere.”
Obi emphasized the need for a strong opposition to ensure a functioning system, saying, “Parties will function very well because you can’t have a system working without a strong opposition.”
When asked about his plans for 2027, Obi said, “I will still continue to run in the Labour Party. I’m a member of the Labour Party.” He also reflected on past experiences resolving party issues, mentioning a conversation with former President Yar’Adua, who instructed the INEC Chairman to prevent problems within parties. Obi said, “We had a problem in our party before, in the past. We were forced to fix it.”
Obi urged Nigerians to protect their votes, emphasizing that the ultimate decision rests with voters, not party agents. He also mentioned the idea of a retirement age for politicians. He said that he will be 65 by the 2027 election and wouldn’t want to contest in his 70s.
