By Oyinkansayo Wole-Bodunde.

Tony Elumelu, renowned African philanthropist and business leader, will champion transformative economic growth, youth employment, and energy transition at the upcoming United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in New York.

As Chairman of United Bank for Africa (UBA) Group and pan-African investment company, Heirs Holdings, and Founder of the Tony Elumelu Foundation, Elumelu brings extensive experience and success in empowering young Africans.

Elumelu will participate in a roundtable discussion at the Clinton Global Initiative with former US President Bill Clinton and co-host an event with the World Food Programme (WFP) and the Tony Elumelu Foundation, led by WFP Executive Director Cindy McCain.

As a leading driver of Africa’s transformation agenda, Elumelu will emphasize the need for urgent action. “I have often said that there is nowhere else in the world you can reap the kind of investments as in Africa. However, I am acutely aware of the fundamental challenges our continent faces,” Elumelu stated.

He will highlight the challenges facing Africa, including lack of access to electricity, youth unemployment, gender inequality, and climate-driven environmental crises. Elumelu’s economic philosophy, Africapitalism, advocates for private sector-led economic transformation and shared prosperity.

To address these issues, Elumelu’s Foundation has promoted youth entrepreneurship, featured in case studies by Harvard, Chicago Business School, Stanford, and Cambridge. United Bank for Africa will also host a networking gala on the sidelines of UNGA, spotlighting investment opportunities and commemorating UBA Group’s 75th anniversary and 40 years of US operations.

This high-profile event will convene prominent leaders from four continents, further solidifying Elumelu’s thought leadership and advocacy for Africa’s growth and development.
