Vice-President, Kashim Shettima emphasized the need for stronger cooperation between the executive and legislative branches of government.
He explained this during a dinner with National Assembly members, hosted by First Lady Sen. Oluremi Tinubu at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.
He mentioned the harmonious relationship between the two arms of government under President Bola Tinubu’s administration. He attributed it to shared leadership and a collective commitment to building a Nigeria that benefits all citizens.
Vice-President Shettima also stated that the current administration boasts the best working relationship between the executive and legislature since the country’s return to democracy in 1999.
He praised the nation’s progress, stating macroeconomic stabilization and global competitiveness efforts. He also credited the National Assembly’s cooperation for the successes achieved so far.
The Vice-President urged lawmakers and the executive to follow on the wisdom of their predecessors, emphasizing that unity is important in addressing national security threats.
He also commended the First Lady for her commitment to supporting the National Assembly and promoting women’s empowerment.
Senate President Godswill Akpabio assured that the National Assembly is united in addressing security challenges, while House of Representatives Speaker Tajudeen Abbas advocated for increased women’s representation in governance. Governor Hope Uzodimma, Chairman of the All Progressives Governors’ Forum, also pushed for more women’s participation in government, stating their potential in major positions.
