Kwara Colleges Need More Funding, Union Says.

By Oyinkansayo Wole-Bodunde.

The Senior Staff Union in Colleges of Education, Nigeria (SSUCOEN) is urging the Kwara state government to increase the monthly funding for the state’s Colleges of Education and College of Arabic and Islamic Legal Studies (CAILS).

During a recent visit to the colleges, SSUCOEN President Comrade Danladi Ali Msheliza commended Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq for his support, including providing bailout funds and setting up a committee to implement the N70,000 minimum wage.

The union is seeking increased financial support to address funding challenges and improve the colleges’ operations.

They are also advocating for full salary payments instead of percentages, given the current economic difficulties.

Furthermore, the union is pushing for the conversion of the Kwara State College of Education, Ilorin, into a University of Education, which would reduce the financial burden on the state government.

They suggest affiliating CAILS with relevant educational regulatory agencies to enhance the recognition of its certificates and promote academic excellence.

The union is offering its support to explore these options, emphasizing the need for improved security measures, such as constructing perimeter fences around the colleges. They believe these changes will provide better opportunities for students and contribute significantly to the education sector.
