Airtel Nigeria Appoints Dinesh Balsingh as New CEO

By Oyinkansayo Wole-Bodunde

Airtel Africa has appointed a new Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer for its Nigerian operations.

Dinesh Balsingh, a seasoned telecommunications expert, assumed the role on November 1, 2024, succeeding Carl Cruz, who returned to his home country, the Philippines.

Balsingh’s appointment also earns him a spot on the Executive Council for the Airtel Africa Group. His extensive experience in the telecommunications industry, spanning over 24 years, makes him an ideal candidate for the role.

Prior to his appointment, Balsingh served as the Managing Director and CEO of Airtel Tanzania, where he led the business to achieve remarkable growth through strategic pricing, product enhancements, and disciplined project execution.

Balsingh’s familiarity with the Nigerian market is an added advantage, having previously served as the Chief Commercial Officer (CCO) at Airtel Nigeria. His career in the telecommunications industry began in 2000 with Hutchison Essar, followed by stints at Airtel India, Tata Docomo, and Airtel Nigeria.

Airtel Africa Chief Executive Officer, Sunil Taldar, welcomed Balsingh’s appointment, stating, “Mr. Balsingh’s deep telecommunications experience and strong operational execution, combined with his knowledge of the Nigerian market, will be instrumental in further supporting our corporate purpose of transforming lives across Nigeria.”

Balsingh holds a Master of Business Administration from Thiagarajar School of Management.
