Poetry

Ask Gina

By Godson Osarenren

All she ever wanted was the good life,
Soft skies, smooth wine when all was pretty low.
A taste of tomorrow at the price of today.
And the consoling words for family long list, was,
“It doesn’t matter.”

She wandered into the arms of her ancestors,
A ghost in mortal flesh.
He was a sage with a scholar’s smile,
A relic wrapped in silk and secrets.
A nerd with veins of ancient fire,
Drinking youth like a vampire’s hymn.

Ask Gina
“Things will never be the same”
She once called it adventure,
Now she calls it exile.
In the echo of her laughter,
You can hear the chains of regret blow like fumes of cigarettes.

After every storm of noise and night to be free.
She returns to her can,
Pleading for mercy at the altar of her ancestor.
Oh, the gold she sought became her cage.

Ask Gina
The libation of the gods.
She will whisper softly,
As if afraid her heart might overhear the riddle:
“When you wed an ancestor, you become a meal to the gods.”
