Labour Party Opens 2027 Presidential Ticket to All Nigerians

By Oyinkansayo Wole-Bodunde.

The Labour Party has announced that it is opening its doors for aspirants to vie for the 2027 presidential ticket.

According to Abayomi Arabambi, the party’s National Publicity Secretary, the party will hold primary elections to select its candidate.

Arabambi emphasized that no politician will be given preferential treatment in the selection process. He also said that the party is looking to correct its past mistakes, particularly the selection of Peter Obi as its presidential candidate in 2023.

He said, “There shall be primary elections in the Labour Party, and no aspirant will be favoured this time around.”

Arabambi also criticized Obi’s recent move to join the African Democratic Congress (ADC), questioning his loyalty to the Labour Party.

Arabambi described Obi’s decision to join the ADC as a betrayal and criticized his leadership style. He said, “Instead of a leader with debt and discipline and demonstrable progress for national renewal, Nigeria got a populist, whose greatest skill is telling people what they want to hear.”

The party has made it clear that the presidential ticket is open to all Nigerians, and primary elections will be held to select the candidate. Arabambi added “Nigerians are wishing him well in that ungodly coalition because these are the same coalition that brought catastrophe on Nigerians between 2015 and 2023. Such a coalition must be rejected. We wish Obi well in his Yahoo Yahoo coalition, but to let him know that the Labour Party presidential ticket is now open to all Nigerians. There shall be a primary election this time around, and no aspirant would be favoured.”
