Samuel Jacob, aka Sammie, a former Big Brother Naija housemate, has opened up about his challenging post-show experience.
In an emotional Instagram video, he shared his battles with depression and financial difficulties one year after the show.
Sammie revealed that he frequently felt overwhelmed, crying alone in his Lekki apartment as he struggled with the harsh realities of life in Lagos. He said, “A year after the show, I lost count of how many times I felt depressed. I would sit alone in my house in Lekki and just cry. A grown man like me with beards, crying and asking God why. Some days I’d thank Him, other days I’d just break down.”
He also said, “There was barely money coming in, but I still had a life to maintain. It messed with my head.”
Sammie explained that his decision to leave University for the show had spoilt his plans, leaving him uncertain about his future and struggling to cope with the pressures of his “star boy” image. He said, “I was in Lagos, trying to live up to the ‘star boy’ tag, but there was no real income.”
Sammie also shared moments of feeling like he was falling behind, as those around him seemed to be flourishing. He said, “You’d see young guys pulling up in their G-Wagons while I will now chop my indomie, wear my fine shirt nobody will know what I’m going through.”
