Lateef Adedimeji Opens Up About Overcoming Self -Doubt

In a conversation with Chude Jideonwo, actor and filmmaker Lateef Adedimeji shared his inspiring journey to success, overcoming self-doubt and the unwavering support of his wife, Bimpe.

Lateef revealed how a senior colleague in the Yoruba movie industry questioned his potential, predicting he would fail within a year. Lateef said, “Someone once told me in the Yoruba movie industry that he gave me one year to see what I would become. I told him to give me two years and he will see what I will become.”

Lateef also shared about how he proposed to his wife over the phone, saying, “I just called her one morning and asked if she would marry me, and she said Yes.”

The actor expressed gratitude for his wife’s unwavering support, particularly during challenging times. He acknowledged her strength in facing hurtful comments and online trolling, including being called barren. Lateef said, “My wife and I have received a lot of trolls. Recently, someone called her barren on social media. She would always show it to me and would say they would be all right.”

Reflecting on his first major film project, Lisabi, Lateef credited his wife’s encouragement for giving him the confidence to move forward. He shared, “When I wanted to do my first big screen job, Lisabi, I realized that everybody that I felt would stand by me was not there, there was nobody.”
