By Oyinkansayo Wole-Bodunde.

MTN Nigeria has made a bold statement against gender-based violence (GBV) through a powerful display of unity among its staff.

As part of the company’s participation in the 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence, MTNers gathered at the company’s rooftop event center in Lagos to form a human chain which symbolizes their collective position against GBV.

This gesture was a gathering of MTN Nigeria’s efforts to raise awareness about GBV, including an exclusive screening of the film Deafening Silence, which highlights the harsh realities of GBV. The event and the unity gesture shows the company’s commitment to raising awareness and inspiring action among its workforce and beyond.

According to Temilade Olabanji, Senior Manager, Sustainability and Shared Value at MTN Nigeria, “Gender-based violence is not just a women’s issue. It’s a human rights issue that requires all of us to act.”

Through its #NoExcuse initiative, MTN Nigeria aims to encourage open dialogue, education and proactive measures to challenge the attitudes and systems that enable GBV. The company is calling on Nigerians to join the movement by speaking out, standing with survivors and working to remove the root causes of GBV. MTN Nigeria hopes to create a society where everyone can live without fear of gender-based violence.
