Lagos School Suspends Teacher Who Assaulted 3-Year Old Student

A teacher at Christ Mitots School in Ikorodu, Lagos, Stella Nwadigo, has been suspended indefinitely after a video surfaced online showing her physically abusing a three-year-old student, Abayomi Michael, during a math lesson.

The incident led to concerns and complains from people online. This led to Nwadigo’s arrest on Wednesday.

The school condemned the teacher’s actions, saying that they are “entirely unacceptable and inconsistent with our school’s values.” The school’s management emphasized their commitment to providing a safe and nurturing environment for their students, stating that “such behavior will not be tolerated.”

As a result, the school has taken immediate action by suspending Nwadigo till a thorough investigation is done. “We have taken immediate action by suspending the teacher involved while a thorough investigation is conducted. This reflects our zero-tolerance approach to any form of misconduct, especially actions that compromise the safety and well-being of our students,” the school stated.

The school also extended their sincere apologies to the victim’s family, ensuring that their concerns are addressed. “To the family of the affected pupil, we extend our sincerest apologies and have reached out to ensure their concerns are addressed,” the school said.

To prevent similar occurrence another time, the school has announced additional measures. This includes compulsory training sessions for teachers on positive disciplinary methods and child protection protocols. A confidential whistle-blowing system has also been introduced to encourage the reporting of inappropriate behavior.

The school’s management stated their commitment to fostering a culture of respect and care, pledging to make necessary changes to uphold these values.
