LAGOS, NIGERIA – OCTOBER 9, 2024
Popular singer and social media sensation, Darlington Okoye, aka Speed Darlington, has been confirmed to be in police custody following a formal complaint by Grammy Award-winning artist, Burna Boy.
Activist and lawyer, Deji Adeyanju, revealed this in a post on his X handle yesterday, stating that Speed Darlington was arrested in Lagos last Friday and transferred to Abuja.
“We just spent the last 30 minutes with Speed Darlington, and he narrated how he was arrested in Lagos, moved around, and eventually brought to Abuja, where he has been in detention since then,” Adeyanju said.
Adeyanju confirmed that the petition against Speed Darlington was written by Burna Boy, but did not provide details.
Social media influencer, Constance Nwogu, had earlier raised concerns about Speed Darlington’s disappearance, noting that he had been unreachable for three days.
Speed Darlington’s last post on his YouTube page was on October 4, while his last Instagram post was on September 8.
The Nigerian Police Force has yet to comment on the matter.
The development has sparked concerns among Speed Darlington’s fans, who have taken to social media to demand his release.
The circumstances surrounding Speed Darlington’s arrest remain unclear, and Burna Boy’s team has not commented on the matter.
