Super Falcons Wins 10th WAFCON Title

Beats Atlas Lioness 2-3

 

Up Super Falcons rented the air as celebration galore took place at the Olympic stadium in Rabat, Morocco, this time again, just like in 2022,, it was at the expense of the history nation, Morocco..

Nigeria claim her tenth title as they beat host-nation Morocco 3-2 in the final of the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations.

The match was played at Olympic Stadium in Rabat, Morocco, where the home side had claimed a two-goal lead at half-time.

The 2nd half was a totally different ball game for the West African giant, as they dominated proceedings from the start of the whistle.

The Atlas Lionesses had led 2-0 at the break in Rabat through Ghizlane Chebbak and Sanaa Mssoudy. The whole stadium if not the whole North African nation was buzzing with positive vibes and energy, believing that they are on the verge of winning their first ever WAFCON. Not knowing that the more experienced Super Falcons had other plans up their sleeves in the 2nd half.

The West African team came out smoking hot from the beginning of the 2nd half with the play’s tempo and temperature being dictated by no other than  Esther Okoronkwo. The No 6 jersey midfielder inspired Nigeria’s comeback, scoring from the spot kick and setting up Ijamilusi and then Jennifer Echegini’s winner in the 88th minute to the unbelievable shock of the Atlas Lioness and the the host nation.

The winners pick up a whopping $1m (£743,000) in prize money as well as the new-look WAFCON trophy.

Once again, congratulations to the Super Falcons of Nigeria on her 10th WAFCON trophy in Africa.

Attention now shift to the EURO Women final between England and Spain.
