Agboola Ajayi Slams INEC

By Oyinkansayo Wole-Bodunde.

Agboola Ajayi, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate in the Ondo State Governorship Election, has voiced his discontent with the election process in Kiribo, Ese-Odo Local Government Area.

After casting his vote at Unit 4, Ward 2 Idumado in Kiribo, Ajayi expressed frustration with the Independent National Electoral Commission’s (INEC) Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS), which took over 10 minutes to verify his identity.

Ajayi questioned the effectiveness of the system, stating, “If INEC cannot successfully organise an election in just one state, then you must know that we are running into anarchy.” He also criticized the Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC), Barr. Oluwatoyin Babalola, saying, “We have said it severally that we don’t trust Barr. Oluwatoyin Babalola. That this woman cannot be fair.”

The PDP candidate further alleged that the system was compromised, citing numerous complaints about vote-buying and BVAS issues. “It is a very shameful exercise,” he remarked. Ajayi also called for the resignation of INEC Chairman, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, saying, “If he cannot do the job, he should just resign. It is totally compromised. This is sad and Nigerians are not happy.”

Despite his concerns, Ajayi acknowledged that the voting process was peaceful to some extent in his area.
