A Federal High Court in Lagos has dismissed a lawsuit filed by Bobrisky, a popular Nigerian crossdresser, against the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and the National Assembly.
Bobrisky had asked for a whopping N1.2 billion in damages, alleging that the EFCC caused him “psychotic trauma” and that the National Assembly violated his right to a fair hearing.
The court’s decision came after Justice Alexander Owoeye found that Bobrisky’s claims lacked merit and were unsupported by credible evidence. According to the EFCC’s spokesman, Dele Oyewale, “Having evaluated the evidence placed before this Court by the Applicant, it is evident that the Applicant has failed to provide credible evidence to justify the award of the declaratory and injunctive reliefs sought by him.”
Bobrisky had also asked the court to restrain the EFCC and the National Assembly from harassing, detaining, or declaring him wanted. However, Justice Owoeye refused to grant this request, stating that “The Applicant’s claims against the 1st and 2nd Respondents lack merit and are accordingly dismissed.”
Bobrisky has been involved in controversy lately, following allegations that he paid the EFCC N15 million to drop money laundering charges against him. However, these allegations were not directly addressed in the court’s decision.
