Thirty suspects are set to face trial over an alleged coup attempt in Nigeria, after weeks of interrogation by military and intelligence authorities.

According to reports, the suspects include senior military officers accused of plotting a violent takeover of government and assassinating key officials.

The suspects will be tried in both military and civil courts, depending on their status. A preliminary report from the Special Investigative Panel has been prepared for submission to President Bola Tinubu, identifying over 30 individuals for prosecution.

The Chairman of the panel, Major General Emmanuel Undiendeye, is expected to meet with the Chief of Defence Staff and other service chiefs to know the next cause of action. Military officers will face court martials, while civilians will be prosecuted through the civil judicial system.
