Bandits have struck again, launching a fresh attack on Christ Apostolic Church (CAC) Oke-Isegun in Eruku, Ekiti Local Council, Kwara State on Sunday and abducting a 40-year-old farmer, Annas Aasanru.
This comes after the 38 church worshippers were kidnapped and later released, and are still receiving medical attention in Ilorin.
According to the Spokesperson of Kwara State Police Command, SP Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, the attack happened at around 12:30 p.m. on Sunday, when four armed men invaded a farm along Koro Road, Eruku, and took Aasanru hostage.
The police have launched a joint search and rescue operation with military personnel and local vigilante members to secure Aasanru’s release.
In another development, Oba Kamilu Salami, the Ojibara of Bayagan, who was kidnapped on Saturday along with six others, has escaped from his captors. Sources indicate that he escaped during a gun battle between the kidnappers and local vigilantes who were conducting a rescue mission in the forest.
The kidnappers had initially demanded a ransom of N150 million for Oba Ojibara’s release. However, he managed to escape with the six others, and although they have not yet arrived in the community, they have made contact with community members.
