The Federal University Dutse (FUD) has received a ₦1 billion grant from the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund) to establish innovation hubs and technology parks.
This initiative aims to empower students, foster self-reliance, and equip them to become potential employers.
According to the University’s Director of Public Affairs, Mr. Abdullahi Yahaya Bello, the fund allocation was conveyed in a letter dated June 19, 2025, signed by TETFund Executive Secretary, Arc. Sonny S.T. Echono, FNIA.
The Vice-Chancellor, Professor Abdulkarim Sabo Mohammed, stated that FUD is among few Universities chosen for this landmark project.
He emphasized that the innovation hubs will promote a culture of innovation, creativity, and entrepreneurship, enhancing economic growth and human capital development.
According to the statement, “The project aims to empower the University’s students, fostering their self-reliance and equipping them to become potential employers in their respective fields.”
The innovation hubs will feature 14 components, including: Product Design Lab, 3D Printing Lab, Software Lab, Leathercraft Workshop, Bio-Technology Lab, Embedded Systems Coding Lab, Electronics Lab, Textile and Fashion Design Workshop, Upcycling and Recycling Workshop, Eco Lab, Refrigeration and Air-conditioning (RAC) Lab, Metal Workshop, Wood Workshop, Sustainable Energy Lab, and Showrooms
Prof. Sabo described each component by highlighting their unique features and purposes. For instance, the 3D Printing Lab will be equipped with cutting-edge technology, while the Software Lab will provide state-of-the-art hardware and software resources.
“The VC explained that upon completion of this project, FUD will become an environment that brings together exceptional talent and skilled professionals among staff, students and the general public through providing access to mentorship, expert guidance, networking opportunities, and state-of-the-art technology—each of which is essential for turning innovative ideas into reality.”
