The Obafemi Awolowo University community is on high alert after 300-level Chemistry student Dorcas Oseghale went missing on Wednesday, August 6, 2025.
Dorcas left her hostel at Adesanmi House to buy food near the students’ village along Ede Road around 8:00 p.m. but never returned. Her phone lines became unreachable shortly after.
The University’s security unit started tracking conversations about the incident on social media platforms by 3:00 p.m. on August 7.
A group of Chemistry students, along with Dorcas’ roommate Akinkuade Omobolanle Beatrice, formally reported her disappearance to the security unit by 6:10 p.m. the same day.
Due to limited resources, the University handed the case over to the Nigerian Police, who have the necessary expertise and manpower to investigate. The University’s spokesman, Abiodun Olanrewaju said, “Considering the complexity of the case and its limitations in terms of human and material resources, the security unit then detailed three of its personnel to lead the students and report its preliminary findings to the Nigerian Police.”
Vice-Chancellor, Professor Simeon Bamire commended the students for their vigilance and prompt reporting. He urged anyone with information about Dorcas’ whereabouts to contact the police or the University’s security unit.
The Great Ife Students’ Union and National Association of University Students in Osun have called for calm, while the University continues to work with security agencies to find Dorcas.
The University is urging anyone with information to come forward and assist in the search for Dorcas.
