Low voters affected the local government election in Ondo State, with many residents in Okitipupa saying that their reason for not going to vote is their lack of confidence in the electoral process.
According to the News Agency of Nigeria , many residents failed to cast their votes at polling centers across the states, instead they went about their daily business and stayed at home.
Some residents expressed their dissatisfaction with the electoral process, stating that the government has failed to address the country’s problems. A commercial driver named Segun, said, “What have we gained from all the elections we have been participating in? Nothing but untold hardship and hunger. I no longer have interest in the process.”
Other people shared the same feeling with a motorcyclist who said, “There’s serious hunger in the country, and the only way out now is to be dedicated to work in order to feed the family.” Madam Felicia, a beverage seller considered voting a waste of time, saying hat politicians make promises during campaigns but disappear after winning. She urged the government to prioritize residents’ welfare to ensure they enjoy the dividends of democracy.
