Tiwa Savage is speaking against the industry labelling Davido, Burna Boy, and Wizkid as the “Big 3” of Afrobeats.
She argue that this narrative overlooks the remarkable achievements of female artists in the genre.
In a recent interview with BBC Radio 1Xtra, Tiwa Savage emphasized that Tems deserves recognition among the top tier of Afrobeats artists, considering her impressive track record.
She said, “Think about it, certain types of artistes get paid more. So, they get the opportunity to spend more on influencers and radio play so you are going to hear their music way more. Also, I feel like it is unfair to have a conversation about the Top 3 and not mention someone like Tems. Are you serious?”
Tems has gained widespread recognition after collaborating with Wizkid on “Essence” in 2020. Her Grammy wins in 2023 for “Wait For U” and in 2025 for ‘Best African Music Performance’ for “Love Me JeJe” further solidify her position as a leading figure in Afrobeats.
