Even amidst the uncertainty and possible breakdown of law and door in the country, the organisers of Nigerian Electronic Media Content Exhibition and Awards (NEMCEA) defiled all odds and went ahead with their planning and struck to the initial dates of August 7th & 8th, 2024 @ the Radisson Blu Hotel, Ikeja, Lagos. It paid off as the opening ceremony recorded the highest turn out in the history of the 3 years old event.
The roll call of Guests of Honour included but not limited to the former Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, Mr. Raphael Akpan ( NBC Lagos Zonal Director), who represented the Director General of National Broadcasting Commission ( NBC), Mrs. Bolanle F. Owoyemi, Director of Operation, Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria ( FRCN) representing the Director General of FRCN, Dr. Mohammad Bulama,
Mrs. Ruth Omonigho K. , Head, Electronic and Print Media Unit ( NCAA), who represented the Acting Director General, Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA), Capt. Chris Najomo, Lynda Alphaeus N., Director, Lagos Office for Nigeria Copyright Commission (NCC), representing the Director General, Dr. John Asein amongst many others.
The consensus of the two days event is that stakeholders in the Industry must maximize and take advantage of new trends in the technology space to enhance their production and leverage on it for better productivity overall.
Giving his welcome address Mr. Adeniji Omirin, President of EMCOAN, in his address spoke about how they are also focusing on the young content creators as a way of planning for the future from today.
“We took a step further last year during the 2023 edition to unveil the NEMCEA Creative Academy. The target Idea is to the mass communication/creative arts and students with other relevant discipline in tertiary to learn the rudiment of the content production business even while in school and having a practical internship programme through our members’ production outfits” he concluded.
Alhaji Lai Mohammed, former Minister of Information and Culture, also tasked the Government to do better in terms of investing more funds in the Creative Industry cum Content Production and also crave that content producers must protect their content copyrights.
Mr. Obi Emelonye, the Creative Director, Nollywood Film Factory who opened the event with his PowerPoint presentation on the central theme – ‘‘Content Production and Emerging Technology; A Panacea For Growth in The Creative Economy’ spoke glowingly about his experience in using Artificial Intelligence in his last film production where it was used for storyboarding.
He explained further that technology has been democratized, enabling more people to create content seamlessly and tell amazing stories. He told content creators to be ahead of new trends and technologies like volume technology, the internet of things, advanced cameras, Artificial Intelligence (AI), Virtual Reality, drone photography, 360 filmmaking, and streaming to boost their operation.
The event brings together stakeholders in the Media Industry within and outside Nigeria to buy, sell, collaborate, aggregate and exchange ideas.
This year’s central theme created an ample opportunity for erudite speakers/panelists and discussants to bring to fore and proffer way forward as to how content creators/producer can maximise the opportunity that the evolving technological trends is bringing into content production in its entirety.
