Adekunle Gold Speaks Out About Living with Sickle Cell Disease

Nigerian music star, Adekunle Gold has shared his ongoing struggles with sickle cell disease. He revealed that he still experiences crises despite being on lifelong medication since childhood.

In a recent interview, the 38-year-old singer spoke about the impact of the disease on his life, emphasizing the importance of genotype testing to prevent the spread of sickle cell.

Adekunle Gold spoke on his first encounter with the disease, which started with recurring joint pain and frequent illnesses. He said, “I still have crisis,”

The singer has been managing his condition with folic acid and B complex medication since he was 5 years old. He attributed his improved health to better self-care and access to resources.

He said, “My vision is to make more noise about it because a lot of people don’t know about it, and the important organizations are not making so much moves regarding it.”
