Omoni Oboli: From Actress to Director

By Oyinkansayo Wole-Bodunde.

Omoni Oboli, a well-known filmmaker in Nollywood, has shared her early struggles in the film industry.

At the start of her career, she would often give away her scripts in exchange for acting roles. However, after watching the final product, she realized that her vision wasn’t fully represented on screen.

This led her to decide that she needed to direct her own films to ensure her stories were told her way.

Oboli admitted feeling uncertain and lacking confidence when she first started directing. She questioned her ability, wondering who she was to take on such a role. Despite her fears, she found the courage to pursue her dreams. She began learning from other directors on set and eventually decided to formalize her education by attending the New York Film Academy for a short course.

Through her journey, Oboli learned the importance of taking control of her own stories and bringing her unique vision to life. She emphasized that with determination and hard work, anyone can overcome their doubts and achieve their goals.
