Prof. Suwaiba Ahmad, Minister of State for Education, highlighted the positive impact of President Bola Tinubu’s administration on Public Universities during Usmanu Danfodiyo University’s 50th anniversary and 42nd convocation ceremony.
She emphasized the significance of the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND), introduced to support students financially.
She said, “As part of efforts to ensure more students achieve their educational dreams, President Tinubu introduced NELFUND to enable young Nigerians to pursue their studies without financial constraints.”
The Federal Government has allocated ₦120 billion to enhance vocational education and improve access to quality education.
Sokoto State Governor, Ahmad Aliyu, pledged to strengthen ties with the University, focusing on innovation, skills development, and educational reform. Key actions include:
1. Settling Tuition Fees: ₦1.845 billion in accumulated tuition fees for Sokoto medical students studying locally and abroad has been settled.
2. Reward for Excellence: A Hajj seat has been awarded to Abdullahi Sherif, the best graduating student with a 4.92 CGPA from the Department of Microbiology.
3. Honoring Excellence: Three notable individuals were recognized for their contributions. One is Lt. Gen. Faruku Yahaya (retd), with a Doctor of Science degree. Another is Sheikh Aminu Durawa, with a Doctor of Letters. Then, Prof. Dejo Abdulrahman, with Emeritus Professor for his dedication to the institution.
