Spotify has unveiled its “Detty December” hub, a comprehensive platform celebrating the vibrant festive season in West Africa and South Africa.
This dedicated hub offers a curated selection of playlists, showcasing the biggest hits and emerging sounds of the season, from Afrobeats and Amapiano anthems to relaxing vibes for recovery days.
According to Phiona Okumu, Head of Music at Spotify Sub-Saharan Africa, “Detty December is a special time for our users in West Africa and ke Dezemba symbolises South Africa’s spirit of celebration. We’re excited to be part of their celebrations with this dedicated hub and playlists, bringing them the best music to soundtrack their festive moments.”
The “Detty December” hub pays tribute to the unique culture surrounding this festive season, which draws in fans from the diaspora and locals alike. The hub’s curated sounds evoke the lively atmosphere of Lagos rooftop lounges, Accra’s beachside festivals, and South Africa’s township tunes.
In addition to the hub, Spotify has launched a new playlist, “Songs of Detty December”, featuring a curated selection of songs predicted to dominate this year’s festive season. The hub will also host takeover playlists, showcasing Africa’s diverse talent, including a South African Summer playlist curated by Amapiano talent Kamo_ww.
Spotify’s Frequency program is supporting the Jerk x Jollof event, a popular celebration making its African debut. The Jerk x Jollof Cape Town takeover will bring together DJs and artists from South and West Africa, including TxC, DBN Gogo, Spinall, Sarz, and Odeal, to merge the spirits of Detty December and ke Dezemba.
Okumu emphasized, “We’re committed to supporting African music and culture. We believe that music is a powerful way to bring people together, and we’re excited to be part of the Detty December celebrations.”
The “Detty December” hub is now available on Spotify, offering users a immersive and curated sound selection to keep the festive vibes going throughout the season.
