The Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Benjamin Kalu, has declared that the All Progressives Congress (APC) will take over Abia State in 2027, ending the Labour Party’s governance.
Addressing a rally in Umuahia on Sunday, Benjamin Kalu said that the party’s upcoming rally on December 29, 2025, would be an introduction to their eventual takeover.
Benjamin Kalu expressed dissatisfaction with Governor Alex Otti’s administration. He stated inadequate performance despite substantial monthly allocations of N38-40 billion. He said, “We have now come to take over, and there is no going back.”
In response, Governor Otti’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Ferdinand Ekeoma, dismissed Kalu’s allegations as “spurious” and criticized his comparison with previous administrations.
Ekeoma mentioned the challenges caused by exchange rate fluctuations and inflation. He said that the state’s 2025 year-to-date FAAC allocation stands at N125 billion.
